CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

A local family wants to know just what led to the death of a toddler in Cleveland Heights.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office says two-year-old Zaniyah Hollins died at Rainbow Babies and Children's hospital on Thursday, July 3.

When you look at pictures of Zanyiah Hollins, she looks like any other happy-go-lucky toddler. It's hard to imagine how tragically her life ended.

Zanyiah's dad says he was told she fell out of the window of the apartment she shared with her mother along Mayfield Road in Cleveland Heights. Doctors told Harold Eathridge his daughter suffered severe head injuries.

"I held my daughter the same way I held her when she was born, when she died," said Eathridge.

Mom was said to have left Zanyiah with a boyfriend while she went to get tags for her car.  Jarron Grayes lives next door.

"She asked us if we could take her to the DMV. So, we took her to the DMV.  She had a call, said her baby had fallen out of the window. She got here as soon as possible, but they wouldn't let her see the baby," said Grayes.

Zanyiah was rushed to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital, but died in surgery. Police are investigating what happened.

"I know she is looking down. I want to tell her I love her. I would do anything to get her back," added Eathridge.

Cleveland Heights Police have not commented.
