Workers at Butler County Children Services are investigating after they discovered two children living in a Middletown garage in filthy conditions.
The 7-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy had not been bathed in weeks, according to authorities. Investigators say there was no food or beds inside the garage and that it was infested with bugs.
The mother, Jaqlyn Pettit, admitted to having a heroin problem. She told authorities they had been living in the garage for two weeks.
Authorities say the children are now in custody of their great-grandmother. Charges are reportedly pending in the case.
