CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) -

Several hundred people filed through the Church of the Savior Saturday evening for a fundraiser called "Cookout for the Colony" in memory of Jim Brennan. Brennan was killed June 30 during a robbery at his restaurant, Brennan's Colony

The cookout featured food, a DJ, activities for children, an auction and raffle items. Also for sale was "We Are A Colony" T-shirts.

Stephen Cerne, who helped organize the event, says it will help the community with the loss.

''Some of these people knew Mr. Brennan. Some of these people are just from Cleveland Heights. So it's not only for just Mr. Brennan and the colony, but it's for this community," said Cerne.

Brennan was a pillar of Cleveland Heights. He was known for his hard work and his helping hand.

About a mile from the Church of the Savior is a bar and restaurant called the Tavern Company. Its owner, Chris Armington, says he owes his start to Jim Brennan.

''I worked for him for 13 years. I learned everything from him. I would not be here without him," Armington said.

There have been many fundraiser since Brennan's death. More than 1,000 T-shirts have been sold and more than $50,000 raised. The Brennan family declined the donations, which will go to reopening the restaurant instead.
