Smyly stymies Indians bats

DETROIT, MI (WOIO) - The Indians will have to settle for three out of four against their Central Divisional foes as they fell in Detroit 5-1 on Sunday.  The Tribe offense struggled mightily against Tigers starter Drew Smyly, mustering just four hits off the crafty lefty.

The Indians didn't get their first hit of the game until the fifth when Yan Gomes drilled a ball into right center for a two-out double.  He later belted his 13th homerun of the season in the loss.

Indians starter Josh Tomlin struggled a bit, allowing four runs on six hits in his 4 1/3 innings of work, falling to 5-8 on the season.  The loss drops the Indians to 5 1/2 games behind the Tigers in the division

Now the Indians travel to Minnesota to start a three-game series with the Twins.
