Amish boy struck by car in Geauga County, flown to Rainbow

GEAUGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - The Geauga County Sheriff's Office reported a 14-year-old boy was struck by a car in front of 16940 Chardon Windsor Road in Huntsburg around 7pm Sunday.

Lt. John Hiscox tells 19 Action News the boy has been flown to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital where his condition is not known.

The Chardon Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the boy was traveling in a homemade cart being pulled by a horse traveling west on Chardon Windsor. A jeep traveling the same direction struck the cart from behind, sending all parties into a ditch.

The boy was ejected. The horse was severely injured and had to be euthanized.

The driver of the jeep remained at the scene and was cooperative. Troopers are investigating what requirements were necessary for the cart to be on the road as the investigation continues.

The driver has not been cited. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
