(WOIO) - The future is now in the world of golf, as 25-year-old Rory McIlroy went wire to wire and Royal Liverpool and has now won every major except the Masters. McIlroy fired a one-under 71 to hold off Sergio Garcia and Ricky Fowler, posting an impressive -17 score to claim his first Open Championship.
The win nets McIlroy $1.7 million and also solidifies his no. 2 spot in the World Golf rankings, behind Adam Scott. Tiger Woods struggled again, shooting a 4+ 75 and finishing at +6 for the tournament, 69th overall -- the worst career four-round major finish.
