About 150 people came by Saturday to support Destiny's lemonade stand fundraiser for Officer Hank Adkins. The dedicated Cleveland police officer for the First District was forced to retire in June after being diagnosed with ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease.

Although the rain forced the stand inside, this did not deter the attendance.

A grand total of $1620 was raised by the end of the day and this includes the competition between Captain Keith Sulzer and Council President Kevin Kelley, which was titled the "the gun versus the gavel".

Keith Sulzer raised $428 and Kevin Kelley raised $179 in the competition, although some say Kevin had superior lemonade (home-made regular, raspberry and strawberry lemonade).

Marilyn Monroe even made a guest appearance!

The effort was a gesture of support for Officer Hank Adkins and his family. This was a community effort:

* Michael Liner of Liner Legal LLC donated lemonade and cups
* Builddreamplayhouses.com donated 2 lemonade stands and $100 for Officer Hank Adkins
* Old Brooklyn Lawn Care donated gift certificates
* Georgio's Pizza donated gift certificates
* The Cleveland Browns sent their mascot "Chomps"
* Julie Holiday (aka Mariyn Monroe)
* Chis Emig from the band "Cellbound" who played Elmo
* Gloria Dei Lutheran Church at 5801 Memphis Ave. provided the space — at Gloria Dei Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Anyone interested in still making a donation to the Adkins family can contact the Second Police District at 216-623-5220.
