GEAUGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

The Chardon Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating a serious injury crash on Chardon-Windsor Road in Huntsburg Township.

It happened around 6:45 p.m. Sunday. Police say a 2006 Jeep Commander and an Amish wagon being pulled by a horse were both westbound on Chardon-Windsor Road when the Jeep rear-ended the wagon, ejecting the rider.

The Jeep was driven by Benjamin Nelson, 34, of Chardon. Mr. Nelson was not injured.

The wagon was driven by a 13-year old Amish boy of Huntsburg and he was seriously injured.

The teen was treated at the scene by Community Care Squad and Middlefield Fire Department before being Life Flighted to Rainbows Babies and Childrens Hospital.

His condition is unknown at this time.

The horse was seriously injured in the crash, and was euthanized by a neighbor, at the request of the owner.

The crash is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
