Motorcyclist hits deer and dies, was not wearing a helmet

WAYNE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

The Wooster Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one-vehicle fatal motorcycle crash that happened Monday night. The crash occurred on Township Road 36 south of Township Road 152.

David P. Hayhurst III, age 21, of 4625 South Firestone Road, Shreve, Ohio, was south on Township Road 36 on a blue Yamaha Star motorcycle when he struck a deer that entered the roadway. The impact caused the motorcycle to overturn ejecting Hayhurst.        

EMS and rescue personnel from the New Pittsburgh Fire Department as well as Life Flight responded.  Hayhurst was flown to Akron City Hospital where he underwent surgery for injuries sustained in the crash.  Hayhurst was later pronounced dead at Akron City Hospital.  Hayhurst was not wearing a helmet.  

This is the ninth fatal crash this year in Wayne County.
