A man wounded in an officer-involved shooting Monday night remains hospitalized. The victim, whose name has not been released, was shot several times after he fired at officers while running from them.  It happened just before midnight on West 25th Street between Marvin and Meyer. Police were already in the area investigating two shootings that happened earlier that evening, when they spotted a man who had warrant out for his arrest. The man ran from police, and during the chase, officers say he pulled a gun on them.  The 25-year-old suspect was arrested and taken down the block to Metro. He's listed in serious condition. Cops recovered his loaded gun as well. A second person with a gun, 29, was taken into custody without incident. He's locked up in jail.

The Malaysia Airlines flight over Ukraine was shot down with 298 people on board. The flight from Kuala Lumpur in March disappeared with 239 passengers, and in each instance, one man was missing. Dutch Cyclist Maarten DeJonge was supposed to be on both planes, but both times changer his tickets. Most recently, he was headed to a race in Taiwan, but wanted to avoid a layover. He posted on his website, "How happy I am for myself and my family that I was on this flight and did not take it the last moment; my story is ultimately nothing compared to the misery…attention should be paid to the victims and survivors. Wishing everyone affected by this disaster a lot of strength." Similar stories have appeared since the news of this most recent tragedy broke.
