Dog rescued from hot car in Mentor

MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - An Eastlake woman was cited after leaving her dog in a hot car for hours in Mentor.

Mentor Fire Department responded and took readings in the car of 100-104 degrees, even though it was only 77 degrees outside.  The windows were open a few inches but the dog was in distress.

Heather Vliek was issued a citation for animal cruelty.

She is due in Mentor Municipal court on July 22 at 8 a.m.

Please be mindful of your pets.  If you must leave them in a vehicle, park in the shade and provide water.  The best way to keep pets safe is to not leave them in a vehicle at all.
