The Lorain County Sheriff's Office confirms the body found at the Lorain County landfill is Cory Barron.
The 22-year-old from Fremont was last seen during the Jason Aldean concert at Progressive Field on Friday night. He had not been seen or heard from since. Barron was reported missing by family members early Saturday afternoon.
A worker found the body after a load of trash was dumped from a truck Tuesday afternoon at Republic Services landfill on Oberlin Elyria Road. Investigators say the truck had been on a Cleveland route, including Progressive Field. Cleveland Police have confirmed the body was taken there after being collected from a dumpster in Progressive Field. Police are exploring a strong possibility that Barron may have fallen down a garbage chute at the stadium into a dumpster.
Late Tuesday afternoon, Cleveland Police returned to Progressive Field to continue investigating.
The Lorain County Coroner's Office positively identified the decedent as Barron and will determine the final cause of death. The Lorain County Sheriff's Office says Barron had a concert ticket still with him, along with identification.
The Cleveland Division of Police is working with the Lorain County Sheriff's Office on this investigation. Police are waiting on a cause of death before treating this case as a homicide. Sources say there were no obvious signs of injury.
The Cleveland Indians issued the following statement concerning the news of Barron's death on Tuesday:
"The Cleveland Indians are saddened by the news of Cory Barron's untimely death and wish to extend their sincere condolences to the Barron family and friends. We are cooperating with the authorities in their investigation and do not have additional comment at this time."
Tuesday night, Aldean tweeted "My sincere condolences go out to Cory Barron's family and friends. My heart is heavy for you all and you are in my thoughts and prayers."
