An Ohio Lottery loyalty program is expected to begin by the end of the summer. Hotels and other businesses have been doing this for years.
Just like travelers earn points when they stay at the same hotels, players would earn points every time they buy a ticket.
The Ohio Lottery's plan is to create a secure web site and mobile app. Customers who register online will be able to redeem points for prizes and get other rewards like free play of lottery games.
The Shell gas station at Smith and Snow roads in Brook Park is always a hot spot for lottery regulars and one of the luckiest spots to buy tickets in the state.
Patrick Tripi just happened to be cashing in a $50 winning scratch off ticket. He's looking forward to the loyalty program.
"I guess more incentive to play...to keep playing. If you lose, you'll still be on the rewards card, still get something out of it," said. Tripi.
A local Cleveland company is working with the lottery to get the program underway.
