Brian Hoyer stepped on the practice fields of Berea hearing his name being chanted by Browns fans in attendance. The North Olmsted native is back from knee surgery and ready to go win the starting quarterback job. "The opportunity is there for me. That's my goal, and that's so far in advance that I can't even think about it. I'm thinking about our install for tomorrow that we're putting in tonight. I believe that I'm capable of being the starter at quarterback for this team, and that's what I'm working towards every day."
Doing it for his home town team is even better. "Playing for this team was my dream as a child, but also being from here doesn't make me the best quarterback for this team. I want to earn it out on the field, and it's great to have the support of fans.
Hoyer's knee is no longer an issue after a long rehab from surgery last year to repair a torn ACL. Despite being 100%, he will still wear a brace all season. " For me, it'll be something that I wear the whole year, not just for the stability of the knee getting hit from the side but I think that it's something that I can benefit from."
Johnny Manziel is in pursuit of Hoyer's job, but the rookie has some ground to gain before he can expect to take the job. The Browns are expected to name a starter some time before the third preseason game.
