Reds snap 9-game road skid in 3-1 win over Marlins

(FOX19) -

The Reds (54-54) snapped a nine game road losing streak Thursday night with a 3-1 win over the Marlins in Miami.

Johnny Cueto recorded his fourth straight winning performance, and Aroldis Chapman extended his strikeout streak to 46 games.

Ryan Ludwick played hero for the Reds with a tie-breaking single to center in the eighth, giving the Redlegs a 3-1 lead they would not relinquish.

"I'm thankful my teammates put me in a situation to get a big hit," said Ludwick. "It's been tough since the break. There's still a lot of time left. The pieces are here. We're getting some key pieces back sooner than later. It's not going to be easy though, we know that."

The most controversial play of the game came before Ludwick's game deciding single. Trailing 1-0 in the top of the eighth, the Reds rally began with a sacrifice fly to right by Todd Frazier. Zack Cozart tagged up, and was originally ruled out at home, but that call was overturned when it was ruled Marlins catcher Jeff Mathis blocked the plate. Marlins manager Mike Redmond argued the call, and was ejected.

Johnny Cueto (12-6) gave up just one earned run and four hits in seven innings. He struck out nine batters. Aroldis Chapman picked up his 24th save of the season.
