Latos leads Reds to second straight win

(FOX19) -

One day after Mat Latos had his name floating around trade talks, he delivered seven innings of one-run baseball in his first career win over the Marlins on Friday. The Reds (55-54) beat Miami 5-2 in their second straight night with a win.

Todd Frazier started the scoring in the fourth with a single to right that scored Billy Hamilton, but it was Ryan Ludwick coming up big for a second straight night. With the game knotted at 1-1 in the sixth, Ludwick drove in two runs with an RBI double to left to make it 3-1 Reds.

"It's important. We've needed someone to pick us up and Ryan [Ludwick] has come up in some big ways," said Reds manager Bryan Price.

Cincinnati would add another run later in the sixth with a sacrifice fly by Skip Schumaker to give the Redlegs a 4-1 lead.

Latos (3-3)  allowed five hits, struck out five, walked four and gave up just one earned run in seven innings. It was Latos' first winning decision in his last three trips to the mound. Aroldis Chapman picked up his 25th save and extended his MLB strikeout streak record to 47 games.
