Water ban remains in place for now, tests don't show water is safe yet says Mayor

(Toledo News Now) -

After hours of waiting for news on water test results, Toledo Mayor D. Michael Collins made a statement around 3 a.m. Monday morning saying that although the EPA has deemed Toledo water toxin levels safe, the water ban will remain in place for now.

Collins said that although the EPA's tests came back positive, the results for tests performed by the city were "too close for comfort." He says the results show the microcystin levels are about one parts per billion, and that that is too high for him.

"I am not going to make a decision to expose this city until I'm comfortable," he said.

The mayor said that out of 30 tests, 12 have been clean, and the "balance minus two are all within acceptable range."

Collins says numbers show about 1 parts per billion, says that's too high and the water ban STAYS for now.

At this point the results seem like they're coming back in a more positive way, but the mayor says he doesn't want to take any chances. He says he doesn't want neighborhoods to be isolated, so the ban will remain for now.
