(WOIO) - A suspect in the murder of a Painesville man was just captured in Detroit.
Investigators tracked 37-year-old Walter "Pookie" Tate to a home in Detroit, where he was attending a birthday party. They found him hiding in the basement.
Tate is the prime suspect in the murder of 32-year-old James Brown.
According to investigators, Brown was in Painesville celebrating the Fourth of July holiday. Brown was sitting in his car on Hine Avenue when he was fatally shot.
Tate has yet to be charged, but investigators located the Detroit home where he was staying after a tip. They canvassed the area on the west side, saw birthday signs and balloons, then found "Pookie" hiding.
Now, Tate is on his way back to Painesville in handcuffs.
