Miami quarterback Kevin Olsen has been reported by both the Miami Herald and WQAM Radio in Miami that he is being suspended for the season opener against Louisville for a failed drug test. There was already doubt about the Hurricanes quarterback situation with practice beginning on Tuesday and this doesn't help in the slightest.
Miami coach Al Golden refused to comment on Olsen's status during a news conference on Monday, but he did say Olsen would "absolutely" be at practice.
With Olsen potentially out for the opener, the Hurricanes would be down to third option quarterback. The projected starter Ryan Williams is rehabbing a torn ACL.
Olsen was intended to take over at quarterback with Williams out, so now Miami will resort to fifth year transfer Jake Heaps. Heaps has only been on the school campus a couple weeks and is still working on learning the playbook.
"It's going to be an interesting battle here as we kick off tomorrow," Golden told the radio station. Golden also said Williams has had no setbacks in his rehab.
