An East Prairie woman is facing felony charges in connection with a forgery investigation by the Mississippi County Sheriff's Department.

Abigail Keri Funderburk, 19, is charged with two counts of forgery. Her bond was set at $25,000.

According to Mississippi County Sheriff Keith Moore, the investigation began when an Anniston resident reported forged checks on his banking account.

The man told deputies that one of the stolen checks had been written to Funderburk and endorsed on the back with her name.

Deputies requested the bank statements and found that the most recently passed check had been passed at Casey's General Store in Charleston, Mo. At that time, they got surveillance video from the store that showed Funderburk and another person had passed the check.

During the investigation, deputies learned several more checks had been passed throughout the county, each with the forged signature of the victim's wife.

Among the second wave of checks was another written to Funderburk and deposited via a mobile phone app into a Citibank checking account. Deputies got a subpoena for Citibank's records and learned the account has recently been opened by Funderburk.

On Thursday, the Charleston Department of Public Safety picked up Funderburk and say they found several stolen checks in her possession. She was arrested and taken to the Mississippi County Detention Center.

When interviewed, Funderburk told officers information that led them to believe she had forged several checks stolen from the Anniston couple.

According to deputies, how Funderburk got the checks is still under investigation, and additional arrests are likely.
