Pedestrian struck and killed by Amtrak train

PORTAGE COUNTY, OH (WOIO) - A 53-year-old man dies after being struck by an Amtrak train.

The accident happened around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday, 1/4 mile north of the Lynn Road railroad crossing in Rootstown Township.

Portage County Sheriff Deputies say Timothy Freeland was walking along the edge of the tracks, with his back towards the train, when he was struck.

The Rootstown Township man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Portage County Sheriff Deputies is working with the railroad police from Norfolk Southern and Amtrak in this ongoing investigation.
