MENTOR, OH (WOIO) - Mentor Fire officials say the industrial fire at Metal Seal Precision on July 26 was started after a machine malfunction.
The fire caused $20-30 million in damages. All 200 employees were evacuated and made it out safely.
Hydraulic oil caused the fire to burn for hours and smolder for days. It also contributed to polluting a local pond. Officials were able to contain it from spreading to other waterways.
One employee, Rich Smith, said they tried to contain the fire with fire extinguishers but it spread quickly after an explosion.
Employees were able to return to work the following week, but they are only operating in half of the building.
It is not yet known when they will return to full operation.
