Mayfield Heights man found dead, days after being indicted

MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - A former contracted employee with Mayfield City Schools was found dead Thursday morning, days after being indicted on criminal charges.

Police say Dean Ochi had an inappropriate relationship with a student. On Monday, Ochi was indicted on 14 criminal charges; 10 of those involve a 17-year-old female student. He was also accused of taking nude pictures of her.

The 43-year-old man was found dead in the area of 1680 Som Center Road, outside of Miklus Florist.

Around midnight, Ochi's wife called police because Ochi was upset and had driven away armed with a handgun.

Just after 1:00 a.m., a Gates Mills Police Officer spotted Ochi's vehicle in a parking lot and a few minutes later Ochi's body was found in the grassy area that borders Miklus Florist and Knollwood Cemetery.

A handgun was found near the body.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner will now determine the cause of death, but police say it appears Ochi died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In 2003, the high school principal wrote a letter to Ochi. Ochi acknowledged he used poor judgement after massaging or rubbing a female student's shoulder under her shirt in a school hallway. He also wrestled with a female student on the ground and put his arm around another girl's waist.

Two female students had his e-mail and cell phone number.

The letter does add Ochi was well-liked by staff and students loved him.
