Unsupervised 5-year-old is fatally struck trying to exit moving "parked" car

LEXINGTON TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

A 5-year-old girl was killed in a car accident Wednesday evening.

Authorities say the incident occurred in the 400 block of Cobblestone Avenue NE on August 6.

According to reports, Cameron Laughlin and a 3-year-old child were left inside a parked Jeep Liberty.

Apparently the Cameron was struck by the vehicle while she was trying to get out after it began to move.

The SUV coasted backwards down the driveway, across the street and into a ditch.

She was rushed to Alliance Community Hospital where she died.

Deputies say the vehicle was in the neutral position when they arrived.

The crash remains under investigation.
