RHP Vinnie Pestano sent to the Angels for RHP Michael Clevinger
The Cleveland Indians today announced that the organization has acquired RHP MICHAEL CLEVINGER from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for RHP VINNIE PESTANO.

the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for RHP VINNIE PESTANO.
Clevinger, 23, has split the
2014 season between Low-A Burlington and High-A Inland Empire, going a combined
4-3 with a 4.31 ERA (38 ER/79.1 IP), 85 strikeouts and 32 walks in 18
games/starts. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound right-hander began the year at Burlington,
where he went 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA (5 ER/24.0 IP), 27 strikeouts and just 5
walks, limiting opposing batters to a .186 average against (16-86) before being
promoted to Inland Empire on May 5 where he made his last 13 starts. Originally
selected by the Angels in the 4th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out
of Seminole State Community College (FL), Clevinger underwent Tommy John
surgery following the 2012 campaign and was limited to just 3 appearances in
2013. He will report to High-A Carolina.
Pestano, 29, has spent the
majority of the 2014 season at Triple-A Columbus, where he went 2-4 with 6
saves and a 1.78 ERA (6 ER/30.1 IP) in 32 relief appearances (23 H, 12 BB, 37
SO, .209 AVG) for the Clippers. The right-hander also went 0-1 with a 5.00 ERA
(5 ER/9.0 IP) in 13 Major League relief appearances for Cleveland this season.
Drafted by the Indians in the 20th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft,
Pestano has spent parts of the last 5 seasons in the Indians bullpen and owns a
Major League career record of 5-8 with a 2.93 ERA (59 ER/181.1 IP) and 11 saves
in 192 games.
