CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO/CBS) - Bridgestone's Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience is going on this weekend and encourages teens to practice safe behavior while on the road.
Statistics show the car crashes are the number one killer of America's teens, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
In 2012, there were 1,122 motor vehicle relates fatalities in the state of Ohio.
Of those fatalities, 104 involved drivers ages 16 to 20.
Bridgestone's Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience, will visit the Cleveland area on August 9 and 10.
Young drivers can benefit from this free program as the 2014 Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience visits the I-X Center.
The Driving Experience is designed to teach young drivers to:
• Define and identify distracted driving behaviors
• Identify the dangerous situations caused by distracted driving
• Develop a base understanding of driving principles
• Understand reaction times in emergency braking situations and controlling your vehicle on slippery surfaces
• Identify accident avoidance and vehicle dynamics
Each session combines classroom instruction with hands-on driving exercises – including a skid pad – to teach defensive driving skills and reinforce smart decision-making on the road, all within a fun and interactive driving experience. Parents are strongly encouraged to attend.

Bridgestone's Teens Drive Smart program sessions are led by highly trained instructors, many with motor sports, stunt driving and test track experience.
In order to attend participants must be between the ages of 15-21 and have a valid driver's license or learner's permit.
Attendees with at least 30 hours of driving experience are said to gain the most benefit from the Bridgestone Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience.
Advanced registration is required for anyone who would like to attend.
