We've uncovered how police busted a suspect nine months after a hit and run killed a 5-year-old boy.
Jerome Lee, also known as Jerome Vance, now faces felony charges. He's been indicted for the death of Israel Thornton.
The child died after getting hit near West 37th and Denison in Cleveland while walking to school.
The big break was a tip to Crime Stoppers. Lee had been locked up for something else, then the Cleveland accident investigator found front-end damage to his vehicle, a Kia Sorrento.
Plus, the Sorrento matched perfectly with a few grainy surveillance pictures from the scene including one from inside a bus and looking out a window.
Police say Lee's own words helped put him there. He lives in Bedford, but he has ties to the crime scene neighborhood.
Israel's mother and other relatives have talked about forgiveness. But we found Lee has multiple convictions for driving with no license, reckless operation and more.
Lee has been locked up. He had been on probation for a theft case. He's faced a stalking charge in Pennsylvania. He even recently has his license suspended for not paying a seatbelt fine.
He goes to court in the child's death on Wednesday.
