Police: ROTC instructor arrested for computer child porn, sexual assault

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Just days before school starts back up at the Westside School District, an employee was arrested for sexual assault and computer child porn.

"We had a mother of a 16-year-old female student at Westside bring her to our office, she had discovered some things on her daughter's phone that was very suspicious," Sheriff Marty Boyd told Region 8 News.

The suspicious activity involved this man 48-year-old Steven Eagle.

Eagle is retired from the U.S. Air Force and is a Master Sergeant with the Air Force Junior ROTC Program at Westside. According to the school's cadet guide, available online, Eagle has worked with the cadets since the program started in July of 2006.

"After we interviewed the victim, we decided there was probable cause to arrest Mr. Eagle," Boyd said.

Boyd said investigators with his department arrested Eagle at the school district Friday afternoon, just hours after learning of the alleged sexual assault.

Eagle was arrested without incident.

"This is still an ongoing and active investigation," Boyd said. "He was put into custody around 3 o'clock this afternoon so we are still working on the details and there's still certain details that we can't discuss at this time."

Eagle faces one count of computer child pornography and one count of 1st degree sexual assault, both felonies.

A probable cause hearing is set for Monday and we are expecting to learn more then. A temporary bond was set for Eagle at $10,000. He has already posted that bond and been released from jail.

We reached out to the school district, Westside Schools Superintendent Bryan Duffie said he cannot comment on pending personnel matters as the investigation continues.
