Mt. Juliet house fire caused by lightning

MOUNT JULIET, TN (WSMV) -

Lightning may be to blame for a house fire Wednesday night in Mount Juliet.

The Sharp family had been at their Clark Drive home a few minutes when they smelled smoke.

They didn't have to call 911; someone already had.

When firefighters arrived, they told them to get out.

"We hear a bang on the door, and we open the door and a firefighters says, ‘Your house is on fire,'" said Duncan Sharp.

The fire burned the upper level of the back of the home.

Jeff Sharp said the "stuff" can be replaced.

He's thankful his kids are safe.

The community is already reaching out to help.

"It will probably be harder tomorrow than it is today when I start dealing with the reality of all of it," said Jeff Sharp. "But within half an hour of getting here, I had friends from church here and just a lot of support."

Fire officials believe lightning may have started the fire. It was burning for several minutes before the family arrived home.
