AKRON, OH (WOIO) - Akron Police are still investigating the death of 39-year-old Darryl Trammell, who was shot three times in his own home on Monday evening. He died the next day.
Police say he came home late Monday night to his home on Brookside Avenue. When his girlfriend Raja Hollis came home early Tuesday morning, she found his car running in the driveway and the key still in the lock. She knew something was wrong.
"I just opened the door and he was just laying there," said Hollis.
Trammell was shot three times, once in the head. He was taken to the hospital and died later that day.
"You took a man away from all of his kids. From eight of his kids. Away from his mother," said Linda Trammell, the victim's mother.
An entire family is hurting from this loss. Trammell's ex-wife and mother of his two oldest children is sickened with sadness.
"Nothing can prepare you for your children's father to be murdered like that in his own house, where he's minding his own business," said Tiffany McIntosh.
McIntosh told 19 Action News that Trammell was set to take their children shopping for school supplies the next day. He never made it.
Trammell and his girlfriend Hollis just celebrated the birth of a baby boy only one month ago.
"He didn't deserve this. Just give us some answers. We gotta explain it to the kids. My baby is only one month old," said Hollis.
Whoever murdered Trammell ransacked and robbed his home as well.
"He was a great man. He was a supporter and provider. He was there for anyone who needed him. That's why I can't believe someone would do him like that," Hollis said.
Yet in the midst of their grief, they speak of forgiveness.
"I'm a woman of God. This is actually my husband's business, we have a Christian T-Shirt business. This is how I feel. Why I can't hate them," said McIntosh.
