FAIRVIEW PARK, OH (WOIO) - Leave it to the day that honors working people to now give us the weekend of sales that helps make our hard earned dollars go farther.
"I bought a full sized box spring and mattress for under 500 bucks," said Carlos Guajardo of Lakewood, "I ended up with 60 percent off."
"I got a printer this week, and it was 40 dollars off, and it was originally 99. That was 40 percent. That was a good sale," added Julia Hayes of Fairview Park.
In fact, some experts say some Labor Day deals are better than what you find on Black Friday because retailers are trying to move merchandise quickly to make room for their holiday inventory, and also because school starts for many kids in August, so, back to school shopping isn't what it used to be. Many are also buying school supplies on the Internet.
Online shoppers will get great deals Labor Day weekend too - close to 50 percent off on clothing and accessories - from now until Tuesday.
Experts say the number of shoppers coming out now and spending will give retailers the best indication of how the holiday shopping season will be.
"I'm actually excited that I cam shopping this weekend because I'm pumped to get all the deals," says Lisa Pepera of Fairview Park.
If shoppers themselves are any indication - what they're seeing so far is strong.
"I see a lot of people in there bargain hunting. Their carts were loaded up," said Shelley Mellino outside the Target at the Westgate Mall.
