We got our hands on new numbers showing what's happening with crime in Cleveland and how police are struggling to fight it.
Recent crime stats show Cleveland's murder rate is still running ahead of last year's and police are still struggling to meet their own plan for patrol cars.
Officers say if you count the latest deadly violence, Cleveland has had at least 64 killings this year, compared to 62 at this time last year. The murder rate has soared at times, but has slowed a bit.
Yet, the new figures also show Cleveland Police still falling far short of the plan for patrols. On average, police are putting less than four out of five cars on the street that the department schedules in its own patrol plan. We first revealed this problem back in June.
Officers say this is a result of many factors, including more police on special details, like foot patrols, plus injuries.
Despite all this, other categories of major crimes somehow are down.
