Traffic cameras are the latest debate in Cleveland. (Source: WOIO)
I am Maryanne Petranek, red light ballot organizer.
Politicians in the city of Cleveland got their 30 pieces of silver in November 2005, selling out the people of Cleveland by installing red light cameras. The city of Cleveland cashed in, the traffic camera company cashed in, and the people of Cleveland got cashed out.
Unsuspecting drivers caught by these cameras are presumed guilty until they prove themselves innocent. Traffic cameras can't determine who was driving your car. Maybe it was the valet or the auto repair. Politicians just want you to pay the fine. More cameras, more revenue. Any reduction in tickets at intersections is more likely due to fewer cars on those roads that have cameras. This is just another tax on motorists.
C'mon Cleveland, are red light cameras how you welcome people into the city of Cleveland? Clevelanders need to cash in and vote yes to ban the red light cameras.
