SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) -

Authorities said a 19-year-old man drove his vehicle into the entrance of the Sulphur Walmart after being fired Thursday morning.

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats said Andre Marquise Hofemann was arrested on charges of simple battery of an officer and aggravated criminal damage to property.

Coats said Hofemann, of Lake Charles, was fired and escorted out of the store around 9:30 a.m.

"The employee then entered his vehicle and left the employee section of the parking lot, driving directly in front of the market entrance doors," Coats said. "After passing the barricades, the employee then drove onto the sidewalk between the barricades and building and crashed through the market entrance."

Witnesses said Hofemann exited his vehicle and entered the store and made verbal threats to some of the employees.

"(Hofemann) was detained by citizens and employees until police arrived," Coats said. "When officers arrived, he began physically resisting, striking the officer."

Officers had to use stun guns to immobilize Hofemann.

No major injuries were reported but some people suffered minor injuries from broken glass.

Walmart management did not say why the man was fired or which department he worked in.
