Motorcyclist killed in crash on I-77 ID'd

DOWNTOWN CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) - A 38-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a morning rush hour accident on I-77 northbound at East 30th Street.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. Monday in heavy traffic with stop-and-go traffic. As a result, traffic backed up for miles.

Preliminary investigation reveals the operator of a Yamaha motorcycle traveling northbound on I-77 near East 30th suddenly lost control and made contact with a nearby car and then went out of control. The motorcycle flipped and slid, ejecting Charles Willard II, of Brook Park, who was then run over by a tractor trailer. Police say the driver of the car did not remain on scene.

According to Cleveland Police, witnesses on scene reported that the semi truck, driven by a 60-year-old Cleveland man, did not change lanes. The truck driver was not injured in the incident.

Police have not issued citations yet as the investigation continues.

I-77 re-opened around 11:30 a.m.
