Police need help identifying rape suspect in video

The Cleveland Division of Police Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit are asking for your help identifying a rape suspect.

Police are currently investigating a rape which occurred on West 104th Street near Lake Avenue.

The victim, a 46-year-old female, was jogging on Tuesday, September 2 when a man ran up and attacked her from behind, knocking her to the ground in the street.

The suspect punched the victim several times in her face and body and pistol whipped her before dragging her behind a building and raping her.  The suspect then fled the area on foot.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'6" – 5'7" in height. 

The video being released in connection with this incident shows the initial attack. It was from a camera at an apartment on West 104th Street and Lake Avenue, near the entrance of the building. 

One woman living at the apartment heard something, but didn't realize it was an attack.

"It was the lady getting attacked and I thought it was my dog barking in the hallway. It was not," said the woman, who didn't want to be identified. 

Neighbors in the relatively quiet neighborhood are concerned. 

"He needs to be locked up. He doesn't need to be on the street," said resident. 

Anyone with information regarding the identification of the suspect is asked to contact the Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Unit at 216-623-5154.

"That's why we release the video, hoping someone can tell us who this is," said Jennifer Ciaccia, spokesperson for the Cleveland Police Department.
