(CNN) - Dutch aviation investigators released a preliminary report Tuesday) laying out what little they know about what brought down Flight MH17 over Ukraine. The report did not assign any blame for the deadly crash of the Malaysian Airlines flight, but it found the aircraft broke up in flight, "probably as the result of structural damage" caused by multiple "high energy objects" that hit the plane. Flight 17 came down on July 17 near the Ukraine-Russia border. At the time, numerous reports suggested the plane was shot down. Of the 298 people killed, around two-thirds were Dutch. The crash site in the war-torn region was unsecured for many days, but the Dutch report found "no evidence or indications of manipulation of the recorders."

(CNN) – The U.S. may have identified the masked man in the ISIS execution video of American journalist James Foley. Two U.S. law enforcement officials told CNN they "have a pretty good idea" of who the masked man is, but they're cautioning that they're not "100 percent" sure yet. Both officials spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity since the investigation is ongoing. The U.S. has been working closely with the British government to I.D. Foley's killer. The suspect is believed to be tied to a group of extremists based in London.
