BEREA, OH (WOIO) - Dozens of volunteers are searching neighborhoods in Middleburg Heights and Berea for a missing elderly man. On Tuesday, volunteers with dogs showed up for day two of the search.
Ronald Herhuth, 71, wandered away from the Southern Hills Nursing Home at 19530 Bagley Road on Sunday after being admitted on Saturday. Close to that busy street, are very dense woods.
He was last seen wearing a plaid, button-down shirt and khaki shorts.
He uses a cane and has a swollen left leg. He also had an IV in his right arm.
Herhuth suffers from Alzheimer's and diabetes.
"He needs insulin or sugar. He doesn't have Alzheimer's that bad. He can communicate," said Donna Herhuth, his wife of 48 years. "Please, please, please find him. He's a wonderful man. Please find him."
"They searched pretty much everything, but I want to search off the trail now, not on the trail," said Jim Ruth.
Ruth is Ron's son-in-law and an East Cleveland detective. He says his scan of security cameras at Bagley Road businesses has turned up nothing. Friends from other departments are joining in the search, along with people who just want to help.
The outpouring is overwhelming.
"I am so proud to have so many people care about my husband. I am so grateful," said Donna Herhuth.
Some are starting to worry there could be foul play.
