MENTOR, OH (WOIO) -

A suspect has surrendered to Mentor Police after a brief standoff at Huntington Bank by Great Lakes Mall on Wednesday night.

The call came in to Mentor Police just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The only people inside the bank at the time were three employees.

The suspect claimed to have a bomb.

Police say the suspect was unarmed when taken into custody, however, he dropped a backpack as he exited the bank. The bomb squad is now examined the backpack and did not find any evidence of a bomb.

No one was harmed in the incident.

Mentor Police are still investigating and plan to release more information Thursday morning.

Mentor Avenue was closed during the incident but is now open.
