February 27, 2012 – TJ Lane opened fire just before the start of classes near the cafeteria inside Chardon High School. 17-year-old Russell King, Jr., 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor and 16-year-old Demetrius Hewlin were killed. 17-year-old Nick Walczak was paralyzed from the waist down and 18-year-old Joy Rickers was treated and released from the hospital.
March 1, 2012 – TJ Lane was charged with three counts of aggravated murder, two counts of attempted aggravated murder and one count of felonious assault.
May 24, 2012 – A judge rules TJ Lane will be tried as an adult.
February 28, 2013 - TJ Lane changes his plea and pleads guilty to all six counts during a hearing inside a Geauga County courtroom. He cannot be sentenced to death because he was under the age of 18 at the time of the deadly shootings.
March 20, 2013 – TJ Lane sentenced to life in prison without parole. He wore a T-shirt to his sentencing with the word "killer" written across the front.
September 11, 2014 – TJ Lane and two other inmates, Lindsey Bruce and Clifford Opperud, scale a fence and escape from the Allen Oakwood Correctional Institution around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Bruce, was captured immediately.
September 12, 2014 - TJ Lane was captured at 1:30 a.m. near the prison in a cornfield. Around 4:00 a.m. Clifford Opperud was caught. Police say he in the same general area as Lane. Neither put up a fight. How the three escaped remains under investigation.
