BREAKING: Body found in Metroparks is that of missing Middleburg Heights man

MIDDLEBURG HEIGHTS, OH (WOIO) - Middleburg Heights Police and Metroparks Rangers are investigating the discovery of a body found Friday afternoon.

Family confirms the body is that of missing 71-year-old Ronald Herhuth of Middleburg Heights.

The body was located in the Lake Abram's area of the Big Creek Reservation.

There is no more information available about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Herhuth was last seen on Sunday, when he left the Southern Hills Nursing Home on Bagley Road. He was only a patient there for one day.

Mr. Herhuth's family released the following statement:

On behalf of the Herhuth family, we would like to sincerely thank the Middleburg Heights, Berea, Parma, and Parma Heights Police Departments, Cleveland Metroparks Rangers, Search and Rescue Canines and Officers, and the countless other law enforcement, fire department, and search teams that have assisted in the search. We would also like to thank all our friends, family, community volunteers, local restaurants and the news media for all of their kind words, support, food donations, and search efforts.

Once again thank you all for your kindness and time, this has been a horrific ordeal for our family and we still are not even sure how we will get through it, if ever. But the hundreds of people that have shown up everyday and have put in significant time and effort to help find Ron Herhuth has been incredibly humbling and surreal. We will never be able to thank you enough.

We would like you to know Ron Herhuth as a wonderful husband, father of 3, grandfather of 7, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend. In his 71 years, he always put family first because it was most important to him. We know he would be genuinely moved by the amount of love that was shown during this time. So many people came out to search for this quiet man, and we wish you could have known him like we did.

As this has been a difficult time for our family, we ask that you respect our privacy as we begin the grieving process.

Thank you,

The Herhuth Family

We are working to bring you more details as they become available.
