The Coast Guard rescued two people from Lake Erie after their 17-foot boat sank about 500 yards from the Coast Guard Station in Marblehead.
At 12:45 p.m., a Coast Guard boat crew from Station Marblehead was preparing to get under way for a patrol when they witnessed a boat sink 500 yards from the station. They also witnessed two people wearing life jackets enter the water. Waves at the time were reported to be 3-4 feet.
The boat crew immediately boarded a 45-foot response boat and rescued the two people. Both people were transported to Station Marblehead. Neither needed medical attention.
