Cleveland Police now say the man who tried to commit suicide in Lorain County Monday, is accused of murdering a 25-year-old mom.
Troopers informed homicide investigators that Hugo Ramos, who had attempted suicide on US Route 20 Monday morning, provided officers with information that the victim was at 3628 Newark Avenue.
Just before 3:00 p.m. Monday, Cleveland Police Officers went to the Newark address and found the body of the victim.
She was unresponsive. EMS was notified and the victim was pronounced dead. She appeared to have trauma to the body.
Police say Ramos left the Newark Avenue home around 8:30 a.m. Monday with the couples three children. He had already, allegedly, killed the victim, but neighbors say his demeanor was no different than any other morning.
"When I came out for work, "Hey good morning buddy, how you been?", same thing from him, "Good morning, how are you?", like he was saying yesterday was a normal day," says neighbor Matthew Hendricks.
Ramos still had the three kids in the car when he pulled over on Rt. 20, got out of his car and intentionally walked in front of another car. The vehicle struck Ramos, who then took a container of gasoline out of his car. He drank some of it, then poured the rest on his body and lit himself on fire.
Ramos is considered a homicide suspect in connection with the deceased victim. He is under police guard while confined to MetroHealth Hospital in connection with critical injuries sustained during his suicide attempt.
"He never seemed on edge, he never seemed ready to snap, they just seemed like a normal happy family," says Hendricks.
The victim's identity has not been released. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiners Office will determine final cause of death.
