INDEPENDENCE, OH (WOIO) - Independence and Seven Hills cities hosted a Community Planning Workshop tonight, starting the first steps of a collaboration between the two municipalities to develop Rockside Road.
The Rockside Road Area Plan takes a look at the area, market opportunities, and zoning regulations; in order to start a plan that will guide future growth of the land along the road. Both cities share a large stretch of the road, including 1,000 acres of land.
Both cities believe that by working together on this project, they will both benefit.
"It is imperative that Independence and Seven Hills work together to develop a shared vision for the Rockside Corridor," said Mayor Gregory P. Kurtz. "Development anywhere along the Rockside Corridor impacts the other community, so to maximize the benefits of this unique location, collaboration is the key."
"This is the best opportunity for Seven Hills in the past few years to collaborate with a regional partner in Independence and a team of experts, both with a demonstrated history of successful commercial development," said Mayor Richard Dell'Aquila. "This shared effort will open obvious benefits for both communities along the Rockside Corridor so critical for both of our futures."
The planning stage is set to be completed by early 2015. They hope to have development scenarios, marketing concepts, methods for management, financing options and suggestions for modifying regulations.
