LORAIN COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

A Lorain County Sheriff's Deputy was injured in a hit skip accident Wednesday morning.

It  happened on Route 83 near Lorain Road in Eaton Township.

Deputy Adam Trifiletti was struck by a passing car while he was walking back to his cruiser with his K9 partner.

Trifiletti had been assisting in the search for a car thief. He was rushed to St. John's Hospital, where he was treated and released. The K9 was not injured.

The driver that struck the deputy did not stop. She is described as an elderly woman driving a smaller, two-door vehicle. Troopers continue to look for this driver.

Deputies say the alleged car thief stole the car in Grafton Township sometime overnight and went to Midview North Elementary school in Eaton Township Wednesday morning.

School officials called police with his license plate, and after realizing it was a stolen vehicle, deputies began searching for him.

The vehicle was observed by a North Ridgeville Officer on Butternut Ridge Road near SR83, and after a very brief vehicle pursuit, the male driver exited and fled on foot.

The suspect was pursued on foot by North Ridgeville Police Officers and the area was cordoned off by members of the Lorain County Sheriff's Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

After an extended chase, the male was apprehended by the Lorain County Sheriff's Office and the North Ridgeville Police.

He is currently in custody and facing numerous charges.
