19 Action News is learning more about a man arrested for a recent early morning rape of a jogger on Cleveland's west side.
Investigators picked up James Daniel III, wanted for attacking the jogger, and we've learned he's under investigation for a cold case rape. Lakewood police are looking at him for an early morning rape, and the Cuyahoga county prosecutor says detectives are reviewing other early morning incidents.
We've learned a big break came from touch DNA. For awhile, it seemed all investigators had was surveillance video from just before the attack. The DNA that cracked the case came from clothing, what the suspect touched. Test results showed a match to James Daniel III.
His DNA had been on file in a database since he had done time for robbery with a gun, felony assault, burglary and more.
His DNA would've been taken again when he got released from prison in March.
And multiple sources say, investigators just went to a business at West 104 and Madison, seizing surveillance video that may show Daniel. Neighbors say he still regularly dropped his kids off at a bus stop.
Oddly, court records show when Daniel was in prison, he had written to a judge talking about how he didn't want his son to make the same mistakes he had.
