City of Parma investigating theft of funds from Parma Public Housing Agency. An employee is under investigation amid allegations of improper handling of the agency's finances.

According to a release from the city, the director uncovered the scheme and notified the mayor, Tim DeGeeter.

"This employee was in a position of trust, and apparently, that trust was deliberately violated. We have taken immediate action to have this investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. We want to know how this happened and how it could have been prevented. This will definitely result in more restrictive guidelines being implemented at this agency," said DeGeeter.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development or HUD has also been notified because the agency uses federal funds from HUD.

The employee has been suspended.
