Driver dies after crashing into trees in Ashtabula County

ROME TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Ashtabula Post is investigating a fatal crash that happened shortly after 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Troopers responded to a crash on state Route 45, just south of Callender Road.

Preliminary investigation shows Jason Peairs was traveling north on SR 45, then drove off the right side of the road, overturning and striking two trees.

Peairs, 29, of Jefferson, OH, was pronounced dead at the scene. The OSHP says he was not wearing his safety belt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
