AKRON, OH (WOIO) - School security in Akron appears to have worked this time as a 15-year-old with a gun was stopped before hurting anyone.
Kenmore High School went into lockdown mode just before noon after a 15-year-old who was serving a suspension was found inside the building rather than at home.
According to school officials the teen ran out of the building and 90 minutes later came back with a loaded .45 caliber handgun.
During lockdown other kids called their parents to alert them of the dangerous situation.
"My grandbaby called and said she was on lockdown and she was nervous and wanted to come and get her, said Annie Sammons of Akron. "When we did find out what happened, thank God cause it's scary."
School security confronted the 15-year-old when he came back and the chase was on. School officials say the kid ran out of the school and came back in twice before he was caught.
The loaded handgun was discovered on him when security tracked him down.
It appears the Akron Police school resource officer who discovered the gun and tracked down the student suffered an arm injury when he was attacked by a 16-year-old student while trying to apprehend the 15-year-old with the gun.
Both teens were taken into custody by the Akron Police Department.
