EATON TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

The driver who struck Lorain County Sheriff's Deputy Adam Trifiletti on September 17, was located today with the assistance of the North Ridgeville Police Department after receiving a tip.

The hit skip driver was identified as 57-year-old Catherine V. Smith, of North Ridgeville.

Smith was charged with failure to maintain assured clear distance ahead and leaving the scene of an injury crash.

Smith was not arrested but was issued a summons to appear in the Elyria Municipal Court on September 29.

According to authorities she has been cooperating with investigators.

Trifiletti was struck while outside his cruiser on State Route 83 south of Butternut Ridge/Lorain Road.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injures and has since returned home and is on medical leave.

According to an earlier press release, Smith stopped and asked if the deputy was okay but left the scene shortly afterwards.
